Hoogte: 30,4 cm  |  Diameter: 8,1 cm  |  Gewicht: 400 gram

This hand-signed traditional Naruko Kokeshi is crafted from solid Mizuki wood (dogwood) and belongs to the iconic Naruko school from the Miyagi prefecture in Northern Japan. This particular specimen was exact dated to July 29, 1976, and was handmade by the renowned Kokeshi master Hikoji Sato. The graceful torso decoration with stylized chrysanthemums, the colorful rings on the crown, and the gentle facial expression make this an exceptionally refined example of traditional Japanese folk art.

De Filosofische & Historische Betekenis

Traditional Kokeshi dolls have been crafted for generations in the mountain villages of the Tohoku region. Each style represents its own artisanal tradition, with Naruko being globally recognized as one of the most beloved and distinct Kokeshi schools.

  • Chrysantmotief (Kiku): The richly painted torso featuring stylized chrysanthemums is a symbol of good fortune, longevity, and imperial dignity in Japan.
  • Traditioneel vakmanschap: The doll is fully hand-turned from carefully selected Mizuki wood and painted by brush according to centuries-old techniques passed down within the Naruko workshops.
  • Gedateerd en gesigneerd: The underside bears both the original pencil date "Showa 51 - July 29, 1976" and the handwritten signature of master Hikoji Sato, ensuring that the provenance and production date are accurately documented.
