Chinese Fisherman with Carp of Hand-Carved Hardwood
This charming Chinese woodcarving depicts a smiling fisherman with a large carp on his back. In Chinese symbolism, the carp represents luck, perseverance, success, and prosperity. As a result, this sculpture is not only decorative but also a positive symbol of growth and good opportunities.
The fisherman's cheerful posture gives the sculpture a warm and lively appearance. It is an object that immediately adds atmosphere to a cabinet, desk, display case, or in an interior featuring Asian art and natural materials. The sculpture is hand-carved from a dense, warm type of wood, possibly boxwood. The details are beautifully executed, from the scales of the carp to the braided structure of the hat. The inlaid eyes give both the fisherman and the fish extra expression.
Due to the combination of good luck symbolism, craftsmanship, and compact size, this is a beautiful object for lovers of Chinese woodcarving, Feng Shui symbolism, and decorative Asian art.
