Rising 92 cm and weighing 9.2 kg, this Thai Buddha hand was cast by the lost-wax method in the second half of the 20th century. Made of bronze or a copper alloy, it has a polished, silver-coloured finish and is mounted on a metal rod set into a black wooden block. A decorative piece with real monumental presence.
The hand forms the vitarka mudra: thumb and index finger meet in a circle while the other fingers rise gracefully, the gesture of teaching and explaining the Dharma. The long, slender fingers carry finely engraved knuckle lines, and the palm is marked with its lines. A wide cuff circles the wrist, framed by beaded borders, with a rosette set between foliate scrolls in relief.
Good condition. The inner wrist and the palm show light traces of use, such as a few small nicks and fine lines.
