A lacquer box shaped like a small mihrab
The pointed architectural profile is what separates this Kashmir papier-mâché box from more conventional round or rectangular examples. Its lid follows the outline of a mihrab niche, while gold-green arabesques and floral painting cover the surface.
Kashmir developed a particularly refined tradition of lacquered papier-mâché, and this piece uses that technique to combine portable decorative craft with an unmistakably Islamic visual reference.
