Bronze incense burner with dragon and foo dog – 19th century – lot 107

This heavy bronze incense burner is a powerful ritual object from China, crafted in the 19th century. The body is richly decorated with a dragon in relief, a traditional symbol of power, protection, and cosmic energy. The lid is crowned by a foo dog, positioned as a spiritual guardian and protector.

The bronze displays a deep, natural patina with clear signs of use consistent with long-term ritual use. The wear is logical and consistent, without modern interventions or artificial finishes. The interior shows old oxidation, confirming that this is not a decorative modern object but a functional incense burner with history.

Due to its compact yet heavy size, this object has a strong presence. It is suitable as an altar object, collector's item, or decorative statement, combining symbolic power with artisanal quality. The selling price is deliberately positioned lower than the substantiated market value, making this a clear ‘good deal’.
