Dimensions: H 85 × W 78 × D 12 cm
Weight: 29.6 kg
Material: carved wood, lacquer, polychrome, gilding and glass inlay
Origin: Burma / Myanmar
Period: first half of the 20th century
Style: Mandalay
Mudra: Bhumisparsha
Monumental seated Burmese Buddha in Mandalay style, carved from wood and richly finished with an orange robe, white polychrome surface, gilt ornament and blue and mirrored glass inlays along the forehead band. The right hand reaches toward the earth in Bhumisparsha mudra while the left rests in the lap.
The robe is edged with broad gilt borders engraved with floral motifs and deeply modelled folds. The gilt hair and ushnisha contrast with the red-lacquered reverse of the head. The surface shows extensive old craquelure, wear and variations in patina.
Age-related wear consistent with material and use, including natural wood cracks, craquelure and local losses to lacquer, gilding and decoration. The underside reveals the traditional timber construction and an old dark finish.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
