Antique Wooden Mandalay Buddha with Glass Inlay – Myanmar
Some Buddha statues immediately radiate a sense of tranquility. This antique example from Myanmar undoubtedly belongs to that category. The warm dark brown patina, the traditional glass inlay, and the serene appearance give the statue a character that arises only through age, use, and craftsmanship.
The Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, the moment when he calls upon the earth as a witness to his enlightenment. Within the Buddhist tradition, this posture symbolizes inner strength, determination, and spiritual awakening. As a result, this type of statue is often placed in living spaces, meditation rooms, yoga studios, and on personal altars as a symbol of balance and protection.
The statue is hand-carved from solid wood and richly decorated with traditional Burmese glass inlay. The wear on the protruding parts, the deep natural patina, and the original red-lacquered base enhance its authentic character. The combination of antique materials, traditional techniques, and a timeless appearance makes this a special collector's item as well as an impressive interior piece.
