Antique Gilded Wooden Buddha from Myanmar – Mandalay Style
This antique wooden Buddha from Myanmar is a powerful and atmospheric example of the classic Mandalay tradition. The statue depicts the Buddha in deep meditation, seated on a double lotus base, with the right hand in Bhumisparsha Mudra: the earth-touching gesture that stands for enlightenment, inner strength, and spiritual victory.
The statue is hand-carved from solid wood and finished with an antique gilded lacquer coating. The wear on the gold, the dark underlayers, the drying cracks, and natural aging give the statue an authentic, weathered appearance. The decorative glass and mirror inlay along the hairline and the robe reinforces the traditional Burmese character. Buddha statues from Myanmar have been displayed for centuries as symbols of peace, protection, and awareness. This statue conveys exactly that atmosphere: calmness, dignity, and spiritual presence. Due to its size and warm gilded surface, it is particularly suitable for an interior, meditation room, altar, reception area, or collection of Asian art. The combination of antique gilding, Mandalay style, hand-carved wood, and understated appearance makes this an attractive collector's item with genuine decorative power.
