Carving and decoration
This seated Buddha is carved in wood and richly finished with gilding and coloured glass inlay. The right hand descends in bhumisparsha mudra while the left rests in the lap. Blue, green and red glass elements decorate the hairline, robe borders and base.
Shan-Mandalay tradition
The elongated earlobes, compact curls, elevated ushnisha and ornate robe treatment belong to the visual language of Burmese devotional sculpture around the turn of the 20th century. Wear across the gilded surface reveals older dark lacquer layers beneath.
Old Burmese seal
An old metal seal mounted on card remains tied near the left shoulder and bears Burmese script. It forms part of the object’s history and supports the Burmese context, but it is not treated as independent proof of the sculpture’s date.
Condition
Age-related wear, local losses to gilding and glass inlay, and old shrinkage cracks to the figure and base. The underside retains visible wood grain and older construction traces. Please refer to the detailed photographs for condition.
