Add a powerful piece of Javanese mysticism to your interior with this hand-cast bronze statue of Semar, the most revered spiritual figure in Indonesian tradition. This object from the early 20th century (ca. 1920) combines historical value with deep symbolism.
Meaning: The Master of Harmony and Protection
In Javanese mythology, Semar is a divine being in humble form. He acts as the ultimate spiritual advisor and symbolizes protection against unrest and maintaining inner balance. Traditionally, a Semar statue is placed in the living space to ward off conflicts and transform fear into steadfastness. The staff in his hand marks his role as a guide through the complexities of life.
Craftsmanship & Origin
This piece is made of solid cast bronze and displays a superior patina with natural green oxidation (verdigris), built up over nearly a century. The richly decorated halo and characteristic facial features indicate manufacture in a traditional Javanese workshop between 1920 and 1940. The rough texture on the reverse confirms the authentic sand casting method.
