Old Nepalese narrative Buddha-thangka lot 345

Estimated value: €650 – €850

Old Nepalese narrative Buddha thangka – hand-painted cloth, Kathmandu Valley, mid-20th century (lot 345).

This thangka brings peace, direction, and protection by depicting the life of the Buddha in one coherent image. The central seated Buddha is surrounded by scenes from his life: meditation, teachings, disciples, and spiritual trials. This type of work was not created for decoration, but for daily use on the home altar, as a visual guide for insight and inner stability.

What you get out of it: this is an image that works. It invites slowing down, reflection, and focus. The narrative structure makes it powerful for people who want to connect with Buddhist wisdom without abstract symbolism.

Why this piece: it is old, hand-painted, and visibly used for a long time. The pigments are deepened, the composition is vivid and human. Not austere monastic work, but a warm, narrative object that has lived.

Value and certainty: comparable Nepalese thangkas from this period remain stable within this value range. This is neither a mass-produced item nor a modern reproduction, but an authentic devotional work with a stable market value.
