Rare Qing Dynasty Cast Iron Ritual Offering Vessel
This unique cast iron offering vessel (Ding) from the Qing Dynasty (ca. 1700-1800) is a rare find for the collector of esoteric temple art. Unlike the more common bronze, this object was cast in iron, giving it a raw, powerful appearance. The heavy mineralization and magnetic properties confirm the age and the undisturbed aging process.
Esoteric Iconography & Features
- Hidden Snake Relief: Unique to this type of vessel, the interior is decorated with 5 to 6 cast-in snakes, symbolizing esoteric rituals.
- Material: Authentic cast iron with a petrified patina of magnetite and copper oxides.
- Inscription: An original inscription is present, but almost completely encapsulated due to natural mineralization.
- Decoration: Featuring cicada motifs on the shoulder and legs worn by Taotie masks.
This object is in original temple condition and is an essential piece for collectors looking for rare materials within Chinese ritual art.
