Old Javanese Bronze Statue - Padmapani
This refined bronze statue depicts Padmapani, the lotus-bearing form of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. After a critical assessment of the casting structure and the unique patina, our expert determines that this is a high-quality antique object, crafted in the classic Central Javanese style. The inside shows the authentic traces of the lost-wax casting method.
Iconography & Finish
- Material: Cast bronze with a deep "gunmetal" patina; a dark gray to silvery sheen with subtle green oxidation.
- Symbolism: The Padmapani is characterized by the lotus stem growing upwards along the left arm, seated on a double lotus throne (padmasana).
- Condition: Excellent condition with natural wear on the chest and knees, which underscores the historical appearance and authenticity.
A spiritual and aesthetic masterpiece, indispensable for the connoisseur of Indonesian Buddhist art.
