A large Burmese marionette of a royal figure, probably a prince, 83 cm tall and weighing 3.6 kg. String puppets like this belong to the tradition of Burmese puppet theatre. The carved head is gilded, with a friendly smile, black-accented eyes and brows, and a tall, tiered pointed crown set with small mirrors and glass inlay.
The costume is richly decorated: scalloped shoulder and hip pieces covered with silver- and gold-coloured sequins, embroidery, beads and glass cabochons. The hands and feet are also carved wood, the hands gilded and the feet red. The figure hangs from its strings, making it a decorative piece for hanging.
Good condition with light signs of use, such as some wear to the fabric and gilding; please see the detail photos.
