Ancient Indo-Javanese Bronze Statue - Durga
This powerful bronze statue depicts the Hindu goddess Durga Mahishasuramardini. After a critical assessment of the casting structure and the layered mineralization, our expert determines that this is an authentic ancient object, crafted in the archaic Majapahit style. The heavy green malachite patina and the calcification on the inside bear witness to a long aging process.
Features & Iconography
- Material: Cast bronze with a rich, crusty green patina and mineral deposits.
- Depiction: The eight-armed Durga conquering the buffalo demon Mahishasura, a classic symbol of spiritual triumph.
- Casting method: Hand-cast using the lost-wax method; The interior displays a rough, honest texture.
