Its spare carving gives the face a strong, almost abstract presence associated with Himalayan folk and shamanic mask traditions.

Carving and use

The reverse is deeply hollowed with pronounced adze and chisel marks. Old holes at both sides relate to an earlier suspension or wearing system. The irregular rim has been softened by extended use.

Surface and condition

A layered dark brown to black patina covers the wood, interrupted by earthy pigment traces, old shrinkage cracks and worn areas around the apertures and edges. The mask remains unrestored and retains its raw historic surface.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/6170/5547/files/antiek-nepalees-sjamanenmasker-hout-vooraanzicht.jpg?v=1789923518
