Its spare modelling gives the face a concentrated and archaic presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eConstruction and evidence of wear\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe reverse is deeply hollowed by hand. Old side holes retain remnants of the former carrying or suspension cords. The interior preserves clear chopping and chisel marks together with a dark handling patina.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003ePatina and condition\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wood carries a deep dark-brown to black-brown patina with softened wear around the eyes, nose, mouth and perimeter. Local shrinkage cracks and small historic losses are consistent with age and use.
